Napoleon’s reign of terror ended after the bloody Hundred Days in 1815, culminating in the Battle of Waterloo. Five years later, with once-exiled King Louis XVIII returned to France, myriad political parties ravage one another in an attempt to gain power. The most dangerous of these groups are the ultra-royalists, who campaign—often violently—to return their war-torn country to an absolute monarchy.
Four men who live a lie began their association after Napoleon’s escape from Elba, when fragile France most needed spies on its countrymen.
